Congratulations to Dr. Kara Patterson for being the 2017 recipient of the Ontario Physiotherapy Association’s Innovation and Advancement Award

The Innovation and Advancement Award recognizes an OPA member who has been a trailblazer within physiotherapy, and advances the science of the profession through innovating approaches in clinical practice, research, technology and education.

As a dedicated researcher, the overall goal of Dr. Patterson’s research program is to advance neurorehabilitation practice in order to improve gait and mobility outcomes for individuals living with neurological conditions and, in particular, stroke. Her current work is exploring the link between rhythm abilities and gait pattern, as well as the use of dance to improve gait and balance. Her work has been funded by the Canadian Institutes for Health Research, the National Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada and the Physiotherapy Foundation of Canada.

She will be recognized at OPA’s annual InterACTION conference during the Awards Gala on Saturday, April 1, 2017 in Toronto.
