RSI Recognized at Education Achievement Celebration

Every year, the Council of the Education Vice-Deans has the pleasure of hosting the Education Achievement Celebration, a Faculty-wide event to recognize and celebrate the tremendous contributions being made to medical teaching and education scholarship throughout the Faculty of Medicine.

The 17th Annual Education Achievement Celebration was held in the Great Hall at Hart House on Wednesday, May 15, 2019.

Congratulations to RSI faculty, Cindi Morshead, and PhD candidate, Philippe D’Onofrio, who both received an award that night:

Mid-Career Excellence in Graduate Teaching and Mentorship: CINDI MORSHEAD, PhD

This award was established in 2002 to recognize sustained contribution to graduate student mentorship exemplified by, but not limited to: major involvement in graduate student learning, enthusiastic and empathic critical appraisal of students’ work, timely assessment of students’ research programs including program advisory committee meetings and prompt turnaround of written work, and careful attention to a critical path laid out for students’ research.

Dr. Morshead's area of expertise is in stem cell biology and the field of adult neural stem cells. As a neurobiologist, Dr. Morshead’s interests lie in developing novel regenerative medicine strategies to treat the injured 24 central nervous system. She has an outstanding team of 25 top-notch researchers and trainees in her lab who are tackling big questions related to impact of aging, neurodegenerative disease and injury that lead to physical and cognitive impairments.

Excellence in Teaching Award: PHILIPPE D'ONOFRIO, PhD Candidate

This award recognizes outstanding teaching in the BScPA Program. Philippe D’Onofrio is currently a Ph.D. Candidate in Rehabilitation Science with a focus in Neuroscience studying the mechanisms of retinal ganglion cell death in the eye. He received this award for his work as an anatomy demonstrator and TA in the Physician Assistant Program. Mr. D’Onofrio was responsible for teaching gross anatomy in lab with my colleagues and for preparing and delivering online case study sessions reviewing important topics in anatomy.
