Late last week, the Rehabilitation Sciences Institute was honored to welcome the President of the University of Toronto, Professor Meric Gertler to its home at 500 University. Initiated by his expressed interest in the Institute, the purpose of the July 20th visit was for the President to learn more about what RSI has to offer as an interdisciplinary doctoral stream training program within the Faculty of Medicine. Hosted by RSI Director, Dr. Angela Colantonio, the visit began with a short presentation from faculty and students and a friendly greeting from RSI staff and the Chairs of the Physical Therapy, Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy and Speech-Language Pathology departments.

Professor Gertler also had the opportunity to witness some of the incredible research and innovations our students through a guided tour of several labs including the Intelligent Assistive Technology and Systems Lab, Oral Dynamics Laboratory and the Rehabilitation Aimed at Muscle Performance (RAMP) Labled by former student/faculty member Dr. Rosalie Wang, and students Nicole Durham and Lisa Wickerson respectively.

This special visit marked an exciting venture as the Rehabilitation Sciences Institute continues to pursue collaborative relationships within the University and beyond as a part of its strategic initiatives.

“I am very excited about our collective interdisciplinary potential to address the major health, social and economic challenges of our century and look forward to working with you (President Gertler)“  - Angela Colantonio

Thank you to all those who had participated in such a successful event!
