RSI Alunma and faculty member, Dr. Rosalie Wang, is currently being featured on UofTMed Alum where she shares her research journey that has ultimately led her to a career in using assistive technology to changes lives.

Wang states that after working with a client with Parkinson’s disease and Lewy body dementia, who ultimately had his wheelchair taken away due to the risk he posed to other residents, led her to enroll in the Rehabilitation Sciences Institute, in a collaborative program with the Institute of Biomaterials and Biomedical Engineering. At RSI, Wang worked in Professor Geoff Fernie's lab, where she produced and evaluated adaptations to powered wheelchairs.

Today, she is currently co-leading a national research initiative with Professor Mike Wilson at the McMaster Health Forum funded by AGE-WELL NCE and partnered with March of Dimes Canada. The ultimate goal is working to improve equitable access to assistive technology in Canada by working with seniors, people with disabilities, caregivers, policymakers and health care providers to understand the unique challenges they face.
