PhD student, Enrico Quilico, shares his survivor story with globalheroes.ca and describes how a horrific motorcycle accident 15 years ago led him to a passion for sports, fitness and continuing studies in rehabilitation!

After his accident, Quilico was left with a severe traumatic brain injury (TBI). His recovery was difficult to say the least, but Quilico persevered, incorporating sports, fitness, and studies into his rehabilitation. 15 years later, Quilico not only runs marathons but is also working with the Acquired Brain Injury Research Lab, led by RSI Director, Dr. Angela Colantonio, the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Rehabilitation of Greater Montreal, and more recently BRILLIANT’s (Biomedical Research and Information Living Laboratory for Innovative Advances for New Technologies) rehabilitation program to better assist those with Acquired Brain Injuries.

Quilico efforts in rehabilitation and TBI have even led him to be recognized on a national scale when made recipient of the 2018 Change Maker Award from the Neurological Health Charities Canada after being nominated by Brain Injury Canada, whom he helped raise $10,000 for in 2016.
